Keris MotorSport Win National Title
Driver David Perrelet won the B11 National Title on Saturday 23 October by competing in the Bulldog Rally, the final round of the Mintex National Championship.
Throughout the season the performance of the Team improved steadily through various modifications to the Peugeot 205, notably the suspension, and by the final event had brought the performance of the car to a very respectable level. This contributed largely to the championship victory and a respectable 5th position in Group B ahead of much more powerful and expensive cars such as 6R4's and Imprezas.
The jubilation of the victory was however tainted by a spectacular accident on SS7, the special stage proceeding the famous spectator arena of Sweet Lamb. Over commitment by the driver saw the Peugeot, co-driven by Stefan Arndt, launched into the air after hitting a bank and landing on it's nearside wheels before barrel rolling down the track. The force of the impact was strong enough to rip both the nearside wheel off and to bend the chassis including the front and rear sub frame.
Both Driver and Co-driver were relatively unhurt and were left to pick up part of the car scattered all over track including most of their personal effects! The only part which was left on the track was part of the broken rear brake disc which was left to sizzle in the mus for 10 minutes!
Stefan was quoted as saying:
"We were doing at least 65 to 70 mph and totally committed when we were launched, David tried to catch the car by keeping his foot to the floor but in this event the result was not the one anticipated!" David is adamant that it was not a mis-call by the Co-driver but the mere fact that he finally found the limit of the car."
The team is now busy re-shelling the car for it to be used by trainee drivers in events before the end of the year
